St Augustine's

Merewether

1889

The bible says unless the Lord builds the house its labourers labour in vain Psalm 127.  It also says that a church is about people.   So the history of this church is about some people who built a building.  The year was 1888.  Mr and Mrs Merewether owned the land and leased it to the Anglican church for 999 years.  The building itself was a gift from the Merewether.  There are windows remembering the family, a pew and tombstones on the wall.  People have been worshipping God in it ever since.  It is a great gift and well loved by the people of Merewether and Newcastle.
