Rector- Fr Cameron Freese

My name is Fr Cameron Freese and I have been the Rector at St Augustine's Merewether since December 2013. Before that I served as Vicar at St Paul’s Samford and Assistant Curate at St Bartholomew’s Mt Gravatt. I have a background in science and, prior to becoming a Priest in 2007, spent 13 years as a Microbiologist and Biochemist, primarily working as a Microbiologist in the Food and Pharmaceutical industries. Education and knowledge are important to me and, as such, I have completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Microbiology/Biochemistry) and a Masters of Divinity.

I am married to Terri and have two children. Terri and I both enjoy outdoor activities with Terri being a personal trainer and myself enjoying rock climbing. I also have a bit of a penchant for boardgames, model rocketry, going to the beach and, for those who know me, Zombies! Run!

Hailing from north of the border, my family and I support all things Queensland. We are diehard Queensland Maroons and Broncos supporters. We also keep a very close eye on the Brisbane Lions and the Brisbane Roar.  During the on season we can often be seen in our supporters gear (which has provided great fun and rivalry with Mother Moira from Buderim Anlgican Church in the Brisbane Diocese!). It often raises some eyebrows but it's all in good fun. I've also reaquainted myself with the Wynnum-Manly Seagulls- a much beloved local team from where my family grew up.

My vocation as a Priest is expressed in Parish ministry, where I enjoy liturgy, the exploration of spirituality and providing education about the faith, thereby enabling people to find, develop and express their own spiritual gifts and lead people in to a living expression of their faith. I am also an Oblate of the Order of St Benedict to Jamberoo Abbey and a Friend of then Aidan and Hilda Community at Lindisfarne.
